From 1841 through 1875, there were 104 known burials at the long neglected cemetery on what was then known as Cemetery Street. On August 15, 1912, the City Federation of Women's Clubs of Oneida raised funds to convert the cemetery to a park. The last order for burials and stones to be removed was dated October 15, 1915. Some families elected to have the graves and stones "laid under" and Cemetery Street was renamed East Avenue to reflect its new use.
