Description

The Oblate Sisters of St Francis de Sales own and operate the beautiful grounds of Mount Aviat Academy, Villa Aviat (Sisters' American Motherhouse) and cemetery. Oblate Sisters are buried here, in addition to the Sisters' family and friends (since 1978). The cemetery is for Oblate Priests and Brothers is located in Childs MD, located on the other side of Interstate 95. The convent was originally the Cecil County Almshouse from 1776 to the 1950s in Childs MD. The Cecil County Potter’s Field, the final resting place for paupers who couldn’t afford a burial, was located across from the convent. On the grounds of what was the county poorhouse, it contains some 150 to 200 unmarked graves.
